Just come across a great cigar box for a cbg,but its only 8in x 5in.Solid made and no warning stickers.

I've never used such a small box, and think it would look a bit odd as a standard scale cbg, but I've no experience of anything else.

any suggestions?  Maybe a ukelele or a banjo would look more in proportion? Or should I just go for a 3/4 scale normal cbg?

The smallest I've made is 9" x 7" with a 24" Scale, and acoustically it sucks. However with a '93 Strat single coil bridge p/u & 500k pots it screams. So I suppose it depends what you want from a build. I'm not a Uke fan & never made one but sounds like a good bet. Jim Morris is a good man to talk Ukes to on here.

Thanks for that,Ihave a29cm long fingerboard lurking in my bitsbox I don't know where it came from, but it looks to be comparable in size to the box. That would make it a largish uke.Just need to make a neck to fit, then I'll see what it looks like. Was only going to use a stick piezo, but as you say,a decent pup can make a rubbish box sound great!! It's going to be one of those make it up as you go along type builds!!!

Hi John I think we all wing it a bit & the best motto on here is "No Rules" Every one I've made has been re-built / upgraded / facelifted or at worst dismantled for parts if not getting played. It's also nice to try an instrument you either haven't made before or wish to learn to play. I'm sure you'll come up with something you'll be happy with. Good Luck!

I used small boxes to make these 19" scale strummers the r/h one sounds lovely

Hey,jabes, you've been busy!! I've had to settle for a17in scale.(because any longer and the bridge will be in mid air!!  I'm using a heeled neck which I think came off a tenor uke but I I'm probably going for 4strings to match the headstock.) Are your fret markers in a diatonic scale?

yes sjohn,diatonic ,

I made these a while ago,I still have the r/hand one ,sold the others ..good luck with the uke
