In no way is this intended as an endorsement for the products these things are promoting, they're just items that I thought might be of interest to members who dabble in building their own mini amps.
First up is current promo from Pringles - send off three seals from the special packs and get what they describe as a speaker. Actually it's a cheap mylar speaker and a small 1W amp in a casing that clips onto the end of a Pringles tube. It has a 3.5mm stereo jack plug for MP3 players and the like. And it comes with three Duracell AAA batteries thrown in. Not bad for just the cost of postage (...and I got someone else to buy and eat the Pringles).
I figure it might look nice mounted into the front of a small box of some sort. I also figure you could use the stereo input to have two input channels - maybe one connected to a simple FET pre amp circuit for a guitar and the other left clean for backing.
Next up, from a Christmas present from a year or so back, another mini amp intended for MP3 players - this time promoting CK One. It has a horribly cheap "speaker" (the Pringles one isn't too bad in comparison). However I think it would be possible to extract the circuit board and connect it to a better speaker mounted in a bigger box. I've identified the chip as a TDA2822, which, according to datasheets I've found, should be capable of 1.7W when powered at 9V. I'm thinking once again of using one channel via a FET pre amp for a guitar and leaving the other clean.
