I've gone with Steve's suggestion and ordered a 1 metre hardwood strip and as he said I should get 4 blanks and the bevelled off cuts will come in handy for making my piezo rod bridges .

The Sapele Door strip arrived this morning , very quick delivery , first thing is grain is not very straight , good or bad I don't know , sanded one side , thickness seems ok checked with digital calipers , good enough for a fretless or fretted with a high action , have to wait and see , but for £3.24 a blank including delivery it seems a good deal , we'll see .
Have bought my last few fretboards from Chickenbone John - they're really good and well worth the money. I started off buying the blanks but now spend a little more and go for the slotted, saves me so much work and time!

The home base near me has various size hard wood available, they are in the strip wood rack with all the architrave and moldings.
