I guess I'm an honorary Texan living in Brisbane, Australia. I did a poetry performance tour of Texas a decade back, and I'm busting to do it again. And way before that my mother was born in Texas (a town in Queensland, Australia, with a population of 990). I play bass, guitar and uke; and a few of us are about to start making some CBUkes and (Cuban) Treses and (Mexican) Vihuelas and StompBoxes. There's a local Cuban Cigar and Coffee Salon with boxes stacked to the ceiling, who also wants us to run morning coffee concerts there. Yehaa!

Besides shooting the breeze I want to reviel my current biggest challenge, My last creation was a 25.5" , jumbo fretted red oak neck that I am thinking needs a shim in the bottom rear to better adjust for high string height. I am thinking of a way to pre-string the neck to bridge before I attach the neck to the box permanently. I need to lower the strings across the upper strumming area and on the lower neck. The bridge is already low as can go and to raise the strings away I have pulled the neck towards the top of the box (lid) I like it at 1/4 to 5/16 inch. Again my only adjustment left is to re-point the neck back, but need to check it with a string at tension and try to allow for the anticpited bending of the fingerboard. So far I have been using a reverse bend 1x2 or 3 that should straighten or bend slightly with all the strings tensioned, but my problem is that even with very slight forward bending of the neck & finger board, the strings start out coming off the nut at 1/8" and finish at 3/8 towards the neck side of the box. Any ideas regarding tilting the neck in the box?

Man I'm so glad to see that there is a Texas group. Been build'in CBGs now for only a few months, but long ago I was pretty good with lutherie. It's nice to have "All Parts", a large supply company there in Houston. I have to tell you all that the place I get cigar boxes from happens to have all guitar players for employees. There showing alot of interest and am letting me display one of my "long necks" in there store. Interesting thing there is that these folks collect hard to find & expensive cigar boxes. Not having many other ways to "display" their prizes, then having them turned into playable stringed instruments for them is a pretty nice way to go, especially already being a guitar player. So I new to this forum. Thanks for having me. BBq'in in the "banana belt" in Michigan, hummm. Being a heavy smoker of anything that will stand 6 or more hours of hickory wood, I applaud you Sir and soon I'm sure you be accepted (Mr.LJ) and acheve the "honorable remote fan status" (sorry, does not include a remote). As you can tell, I spent way to many years in Sault Ste Marie (UP) or the "SOO" as the locals call it. Thanks for the receipe. I like the fact that you use Adobo. My secert ingredent is Fiesta brand Pico De Gallo con Limon. It's just dried peppers & tomatoes w/ lemon. Lemon pepper on steroids. Well I've said so much for my first post. Take care all.
