I'll go first since I am asking
For me it's the mad scientist in me. I love to tinker with things , and make things look out of this world so Steam Punk Art is in my blood even before I knew what it was called. The freedom of it really lends it's self to the CBG as there are no rules and thats how I like it.
The Steam Punk world says it must be victorian looking but they also say that it is a reflection of if steam was used instead of gas up to this point in history kind of a perodox as I see this as the mind works differntly for every genaration and reflects the time.
I hope I have got your inner Tinkerer turned on and set the gears in motion LOL

Hi Shawn & Duck.. Not really sure if I "get" Steampunk , Clockpunk or Dieselpunk but there are way cool aesthetics to be found and utilised in guitar & CBG design. Love your CBG's guys!
By the way Shawn, that "Strat" .... Is that a brass oil syringe I see there?
Cheers,
Shaun aka Bristol Blue
Conceptually I don't think that "getting" is a problem. My idea of the builds is that they should look functional and have a design that conveys some sort of internal power source that can be explained to folks in a logical "background tale" of its design and creation. Just hanging a bunch of mechanical stuff on a CBG can look cool, but being able to describe it's reason to the general public in a believable manner adds to the fun. Still working on my second steampunk build and letting it tell me how it should evolve.......Hmmm.......maybe you have something there Bristol Blue, that dieselpunk comment is brewing.
I think it's the Punk tag I don't get. Punk Rock I get... Standells, Iggy & the Stooges, New York Dolls, Sex Pistols, Ramones.... Also if you check out the Online Etymology Dictionary the word "Punk" has had several meanings from the 17th Century up to he early 20th century. All of them have alluded to being "worthless" or derogatory towards kids, women, prostitutes or homosexuals. Or tinder to start a fire!
I didn't get Cyberpunk back in the 90's either , probably because Cyber/Steam/Diesel/Clock/Mythpunk all comes from Sci-Fi or Fantasy Literature I don't read.
A few years back, a local used guitar shop had a strange acoustic guitar in the window. It had some kind of clockwork mechanism inside of it ,with a key protruding through the upper shoulder. On the upper portion of the table was a small clock face and what looked like an oil pressure gauge from an old Mini below it! At this point I had not heard of Steampunk ,but that's obviously what it's designer was shooting for. Very cool but even the shop owner was a tad bemused . We joked about Mad Professors & Doctor Who etc.... It was a fun playable piece of Objet D'art .
So... I find the whole retro-futuristic Victoriana / Industrial Revolution concept very interesting indeed and the "conveys internal power source" very cool. On the subject of Dieselpunk ..... I find a lot of it a bit sinister looking , a bit too Nazi Germany, My take on that graphically would be more towards a Cold War USSR/ Archaic piece of equipment in use behind the Iron Curtain and only discovered after the Berlin wall was knocked down. Possibly found in the boot of a Trabant ! .....
Hi Shawn , sorry if I'm repeating myself.( I.T confusion issues!) .. Yes Bristol Blue Glass did make "hand grenade type" extinguishers amongst other things. They started in Bristol 1780's - 1923 & again 1989 - present making all kinds of stuff , Those victorian extinguishers could be very pretty and are now rare as rocking horse shit ! In the 1990's they made the bottles for Harvey's Bristol Cream sherry and someone a few years back was selling bottleneck slides he had made from the sherry bottles. Despite the tag , I ironically don'r own one lol !
Did you actually use it to put out a fire? Pinterest & E-bay : Recent-ish sales /auction prices for 1880's examples seem to be between $200 - $440 depending on condition . Junk shops & charity shops are my hangouts! Yesterday I picked up an antique copper bed warming pan for £9.99 from the PDSA shop. They had it since November for £19.99 & when I explained I could buy it on E-bay for less, but I would rather their animal charity got the money they kindly obliged . The woman thought I was a nutcase when I explained what a Panjo is :-D
