There is an old myth about pickups and ohms.  Though I understand the misunderstanding of higher ohms equals a hotter pickup.  You take an electrical meter, measuring the ohm of a pickup, the numbers…Continue

Hey Skeesix and all. I have begun on the "Lowebow" inspired cbg with 3 banger and custom 1pole for the bass string. I will update with pics and vids when it's done

Hey Bob. Thanks and back at you.

I'm working on a cigar box bass. It's my third attempt at a short scale rubber string bass, and I think the best one. I will post some pics or video when I get it done.

I've found that the less poles you have, the more wire you need to get the same volume, unless you're using larger or stronger magnets. Assuming you're not changing the magnets, I would guess somewhere in the 9000-10,000 range.

Here are a couple of YouTube videos. The first one is Grady Martin playing with Red Foley doing some western swing. You can see and hear him play the doubleneck.

The next one is how I got interested in it, which is through the rockabilly band Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio. The band is lip-synching/play-synching to the studio track on which Grady Martin played. Apparently this sort of thing was common back in the day.
