Okay, you'll have to excuse me if this is a dumb question but I'm struggling to find info on three string scales in open E tuning. Is this because all I need to do is use the six string standard tuning and utilise the E, B, E strings information? I ask because, well because I don't know and before I get stuck into the lessons of learning them today I'd like to know if I'm doing the wrong thing haha. Is it different for a three string? The chords would obviously be different because there are less strings but does that also mean the scales are different?

Also, I've found on cigarboxguitar.com a list of chords in open G that, I think, was written by Gitty himself. Does anyone have a link to something similar? I've looked all over the net this morning, including images, but found nothing. I'd be mega appreciative if someone knows where I should be looking.

Thanks and have a great day.

Bear.

Well I never knew that! So I can just use the GDg scales I've got but transpose them starting on the right fret. Interesting and massively helpful! Now all I need is a chord sheet for the EBE tuning haha.

Thanks times a trillion, Wayfinder. I really appreciate that.

Aren't there more than one "open E" tunings? I can think of two that I use a lot: E-b-e, and E-g#-b. The first would be "root-fifth-octave" tuning, and the second would be "major triad" tuning. You could also use "minor triad" tuning, or E-g-b.

The good news is that, as Wayfinder said, you should be able to find a lot of material on scale patterns in all the open-G tuning variations. Just copy the patterns.

Wayfinder calls it.   One of the nice things about open tunings is that they often -not always play the same.   IVI tunings: GDG, AEA, CGC, EBE - all have the same string relationships and play the same.

I have just discovered how much I like open "A" EAE on 3 string & EAEAC#E on six.

Check out wiki link & note of open E for slide & the reference to open G.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_guitar_tunings

I wind up using the major triad tuning a lot. It's like the top three strings of open G tuning on a six string, which is probably my favorite tuning for slide.

All sorted with the scales. I should have mentioned I meant EBE, sorry for the confusion. I've copied the pattern of a GDg chart so all is fine it would seem. I hope! Haha

If anyone has links to chord charts for EBE I'd be massively appreciative.

Thanks all for the help too. You're all superstars.

I have posted a bunch of free lessons in Open E (EBE) here: https://rickmckeon.com/cbglessons.html that you might like.

Apologies for not replying sooner Rick. Thanks a billion for the link. Great information, really helpful and a wonderful teaching manner you have too. Thanks again.

You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it! Rick

Definitely enjoying it but also finding it really useful. I sometimes (often) struggle with doing one thing and then losing that one thing when I start thinking about the next part. Your methodology in teaching the steady bass line is challenging but because I can instantly see the benefit I've got the determination to keep trying. Hugely helpful. I'll try and get a donation in the tip jar come payday too BTW. More than worth it and thanks again.
