Matt,

I'm originally a bass player, so my CBG playing is heavy on rythmn and big chord movement. "She Loves My Automobile" is a lot of fun and sounds great overdriven.... ;-)

the best,

Sam

Ohhhh, I had't thought about Billy and the boyz. I loves me some ZZ on the bass.
But I'm thinkin' I want something pretty easy for my first time out.

dulcibox.... try "Old Joe Clark".....

three string.... "MidNight Special", "Sweet Home Chicago", and with that power chord just setting there waiting to be amped up....try any "ZZTop"....

Go from finesse to power....
enjoy,
the best,

OK ... I'm gonna put you guys on the spot.
Picture this, Sicily, 1943 .... oh wait. I've been watching too much "Golden Girls".

Picture this:
- A bass player contemplating hitting up his first open mic.
-These people have never seen a CBG.
-The bassplayer plays a lil bit of dulcibox and some 3 chord stuff.(old time, gospel, and a bit of bluegrass)

What would you play and how would you play it.

WillieD,

the music crowd is pretty friendly.... openmics are usually good places to work out the bugs with a crowd that hasn't paid to hear you...

go for it,
the best,

I introduced the CBG to a nice crowd yesterday out on the island. Had some great response to it. Had to explain to some people I didn't invent the thing! They never saw or heard anything like it. I'll be taking it back out Tuesday to blow away some old musician friends that do a jamb night on another island. Now that I'm getting more confident in playing it I'm having more fun also. I have some pics to post...sorry I didn't have time to set up a recorder and it was really windy....would have been a terrible recording. BTW I did get 2 possible orders from a couple of guys so maybe the Nation will grow a bit bigger.

Hi there all,
just joined this group. I played at an open mic session this evening at the Jolly Brewer, Lincoln, England. You only get 2 songs so this time I took my "six string razor" and played 'Guitar Rag' and 'V8 blues'.
Last time I took my 4 banger and played 'Can't be satisfied' and a tune that I put together called 'A fortnight in Skegness one Sunday afternoon'

On both occasions I got a good response and lots of chat about 'what the hell are you playing' type of thing.

Hey ya'll,

Have you ever had the "open mic" experience in a "singer/song writer" group where every other participant was an escapee from the 60's acoustic folk era?
All their songs are about the "mountains that I call home" or some other esoteric experience they've had that no one in the room cares about. They're all playing a Martin or Gibson or some high end custom made acoustics trying to impress each other with their fretboard work.

And then I show up with a portable amp and a CBG and I play "Farmer Jones and the Mule" or "K-19 Blues" or 'That Old Black Cat"....

If you haven't tried a "singer/songwriter" circle, I recommend it. It is such a surreal experience that it might just get you back on your meds.... ;-)

the best,

Wichita Sam
