Hi everyone Laurie here.....I am in this camp, most certainly.....played a year of banjo then switched to Resophonic lap slide, so I never really learned to play a guitar as most folks do......hope to build a big 6 string table top CBG soon.....having fun this past week playing an acquired baritone uke..with a pickup and running it thru my lil mini cube...

As long as you don't use raised fret markers, they really don't have to be all that high. Mine are pretty high because I used a Micarta nut blank from stewmac and just left it at the height it came. The only real danger in going too high is comfortability of your picking hand and if you're looking at the strings from an angle, you'll have to compensate for the skewed vision angle and the frets. That was worded really poorly...sorry.

any suggestions on string height? they look in the photos to be pretty high.

started my lap steel build. Down here in Fla. in my town at least , it seems impossible to find 2X 4 or 2x6 in hard wood. I did get some 1x4 from lowes ,so I glued them up today to make a 2x4 so it should work out OK for my first build. I need to find a source for some 2x lumber for the future though. I think there is a saw mill not far. I just need to do some checking.
