This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Welcome to the Nation Krista. Be careful, these things are a bit habit forming. You build one and then you will build another and they just start multiplying like rabbits. I have 21 on my list of assorted builds so far (CBGs, canjos, diddley bows, etc) and all these boxes on the shelf waiting patiently. The fun never ends.

Hiya everyone I thought I should introduce myself. My name is Krista from the Shetland Islands, Scotland. I recently discovered some amazing videos of CBG's and fell in love. So went off bought my first basic kit and now I am hooked. Although I have made music in one form or another all my life I stopped playing guitar nearly 15 years ago and am now feeling like a beginner again with my CBG but I am loving it beyond words. My husband is a wood worker and he is just as excited as me to make more. I am an artist/crafter/photographer by trade so love the ability to put my own stamp on an instrument. Anyway that is enough from me for now. This seems like such an amazing place with a wealth of information. I look forward to getting to know more people and learning more from here. Thanks!

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jason and I just recently got into CBG building. I am the lead singer in a pop punk cover band called Cadaver Pudding in Southern California. We cover anything from Tony Orlando to Taylor Swift. Recently someone offered us a really good gig, but asked if we could do it acoustically. We told them we could, but I didn't want to be a typical acoustic band. I then remembered being in Louisiana and seeing amazing musicians in the zydeco bands, and the heart and soul that they pour into the music. At that point I researched jug band instruments, and came across CBGs. I was hooked instantly! I watched countless videos on building and playing them, but nothing could have prepared me for what was about to happen. The first time we practiced with the new instruments, my chest felt heavy. I was so excited with the music we were making on instrument I built a week earlier. We are the same band but playing under the name "Contraband Jamboree" as an homage to the Country Bear Jamboree (RIP) that was a staple of every trip to Disneyland in my childhood. We now find ourselves losing sleep and constantly texting new ideas back and forth and all because of cigar box guitars. I have read a lot of posts on this webpage, and I'm excited to be part of this community

Thanks guys.  I can already see myself building more of these.  Putting piezos in some, magnetic pickups in others, some fretted, some not.  I've got three more cigar boxes sitting here and one larger box that used to hold silverware.

I have to force myself to put the project down to spend some time with the wife.  And I like her!  Just hope the enthusiasm remains when I start trying to play...

Ditto the comment from Thomas,Evan.Like you,i've fooled around with 6 strings for quite a while but it was only when I started building one string Diddley bow's and 2 stringers that I really started to learn about rythmn, cadence, picking and techniques, etc. My advice to anyone who wants to learn any stringed instrument is to build a CBG and learn on one....But be carefull...these things can become an obsession!....

Welcome to the Nation Evan. Always wanted to be a procrastinator myself, but I just haven't been able to get around to it.

Hello.  Evan from Michigan here.  Just about to finish my first CBG tonight.  Can't play yet.  Have always wanted to.  Been plucking away at regular guitar, acoustic and electric, for years, never really got the hang of it.

Machine Controls Engineer by trade and an avid DIYer, electronics hobbiest, and procrastinator.
