After joining this forum in 2014, I finally have my 1st CBG which my wife bought for me at the weekend (a 4 string from Frethound Custom Guitars). I was never going to get around to building one. Now…Continue

Hi, I'm HazelFyrebird, and I'm a wannabe luthier (I feel like I'm standing up at a Builder's Anonymous meeting...) in Virginia. I'm a bit of a lurker, as I've been reading and reading for a while,…Continue

This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Did I mention I also have built two cigar box amps and before that I built my own custom cajon?
I gave up smoking......
Found a C.B.Gitty kit online around christmas and was looking for a project. Only problem was, it only took about a half an hour to assemble it. I started playin around with it and it sounded great, so I started reading about it online.
Next thing you know I'm ordering cigar boxes, and some parts for a build. I had an old double humbucker lyin around and wanted to find out what a CBG would sound like with one in it.
For a first time "experiment" the smile on the faces of my friends when I played it was enough for me. Now I just want to keep tryin something new. I've built three 3 string guitars nad a stomp box. Now its time for some 4 string guitars and even a six string.
My God what have I gotten myself into????????
I was in my sisters garage the last time I visited looking for something she had stored, not plundering. What my wandering eyes focused on was 2 1958 Corvette wheelcovers with the flippers on them. One was bent, but she is going to give them to me to make guitars. She sold the 'vette 2 years ago. She bought it new in '58. Paid 3,400 and change for it. That was a wad back then. Sold for $25,000 w/o the wheelcovers and the guy was grinning from ear to ear. She had not remembered having them stored.
Welcome Peter, have fun.
Hi all,
Newbie from Belgium here. Just finished my first basic CBG from stuff I had lying around (Pine neck, meranti fretboard, bolts as bridge and nut and a piezo disc). I have some woodworking and electronics experience from building lapsteels, assembling partscasters and repairing fellow musicians guitars (and mine, off course). This is a great community!
Chuck, what took you so long? Kind of slow when the weather warms and folks get outside and vacations. Post some pix of your stuff, you might have some good ideas I will "borrow". (;-D)
