Hi, I'm HazelFyrebird, and I'm a wannabe luthier (I feel like I'm standing up at a Builder's Anonymous meeting...) in Virginia.  I'm a bit of a lurker, as I've been reading and reading for a while,…Continue

This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Hello all and Happy New Year! I decided to start building cbg's awhile back mostly because I wanted something to play "out and about" and I heard some cbg stuff somewhere, probably the internet. I play experimental improvised music and I like to perform with my cbgs. I have made many of them now and given them away as gifts but I have three that I use in every show I do whether it's a more noisey setting, a "free jazz" type setting, or my usual reductionist (minimalist) setting.

I'm glad I found this site so I can learn more about constructing more solid cbg's and to just talk with other people about cbg's. They have become my hobby, both making them and collecting them.

Hi Jay: Welcome to CBNation. You may want to check on eBay for a box. The people here are great and very helpful. Jess

Greetings, Dianne! And welcome to CBN! Check out the women's group if you want to meet some of the other gals on the site! We've got some women who have joined up not interested in building, but more into playing.... it might be good to connect with them as well! You can find the group in the featured group section of the site, or just click on my profile and you can find it on my page. Again, welcome! Best, Lana

First of all Happy New Year to everyone here.
Hello to all. I am Jay. I live in Australia and dam its hard to a find cigar box over here. So i started making my own. So after a few months of research and development i have finaly finished one. It was for my friend for X-Mas (4 string). That is when my ADDICTION started. I love the sound they produce. I cant play to well yet but i dont mind (maybe next door do). I will post a picture of it very soon. I just have quick question for you all in the know .
Is there some where i can find the music scales for a 4 string and a 3 string cbg or any Tab? Just to help me get started. I have open tuned them. Many thanks to all. Jay.

Hi Corie: Welcome to the world of CBG. I'm a 'newbie' having joined on last week, but I must tell you it is the most fun thing I've done in a long time. We have a little in common, but a little backward. I now live in Ohio, but I lived in SoCal for several years. Sandyeggo and near Palm Springs, not LaLa land, but spent a lot of business time in the city so I'm quite familiar with the place. Miss the sunshine greatly. You will really enjoy the involvement with CBNation and the folks on here, and I encourage you to start a build. It is fun and not very difficult, so go for it with gusto!

Hello! My name is Corie. I'm just getting to know this CBG world. I am a Southern Ohio native that now lives in Los Angeles via few other stops along the way. I work in film in props and was actually trying to think of different types of instruments for a scene and started researching CBG's. I instantly got the bug after that!

I love music and have played guitar and bass for about 10 yrs. When I was in High School I wanted to go to Luthier school some where instead of college, but the parents weren't having that. So I'm super excited to start building!!!

Getting ready to drive cross country from New Orleans back to LA so its going to be a week or so before I can actually start on my first CBG, but hopefully will be able to update on my progress soon!

Hi everyone, just joined up and having fun, made my first 3 string cbg for my some for xmas and a ukelele for future son in law too, got on to them searching the net looking for instruments to build at home, already made a cajon ( drumming box ) , so i thought there must be other things out there to do to. having made contact with local smoke shop, picked up a few cigar boxes and the rest is history.Looking forward to improving my building and woodwork skill..time to invest in some good tools......well better slide on out , catch ya

Hello:

I'm Jess. My interest in music is life long, but involvement in the CBG movement and building process is only a week old.

In my day job, I was a newspaper/televison executive, and my outside interests are many. I'm retired now and have time to do fun stuff, so here I am.

A Montana transplant to Ohio, via stays of varying duration in eight other states.

As a vocation, I've been building hotrods, and pinstriping rods, customs, bikes and most anything else for more than fifty years.

I posted a few photos of my first CBG, which I completed yesterday, and already I've received inspiring comments from a few on the Nation site. Thank you! Any other suggestions or critiques would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to making friends here, and to learning from all of you.
