Hey y'all! I Max"Georgia Boy'' Legge, I am a professional carpenter who has finally found his true calling. In the past six months I have mad over a dozen diddley bows(which I prefer) and CNG's.I cant get enough of it. I have an awesome source for boxes just around the corner from me, and I keep my open for differant potential necks. I really love handles from brooms, shovels and such. Things that have wear on them and you know they have history. I am still learning though. It seem that with every one that I make I learn something new to make the next one even better. I also love to use wood that has sentimental meaning for me. I have used dog wood from a tree in Atlanta that I played in as a kid, and abit of wood from an old rose bush that I dug up in my front yard. I also relly love to use parts from railroad spikesthat I have found. Sort of my trade mark feature. It feels like a little bit of me. Later, ga.boy

What an incredible community this is! I'm working on my first two CBGs right now. And it's going much better for all your input. I am neither incredibly gifted in woodwork, nor particularly skilled, so it'll take me a while to catch up with even the lesser creations I see around here. But I am having a great time, and looking forward to plunking around on it, once it's together.

Thanks everyone!

Hello all: Just built my first CBG and I can't seem to put it down. It's a 3 string made out of a a Padron with a poplar neck. Fretting was a challenge but it came out pretty good. I am mainly a keyboard player but actually started my musical career about 45 years ago on six string guitar. I can't wait to get started on my next one. I would love to hear any info or guidance on putting an existing (strat type) neck on a box to make a six string CBG. check out my web site @ (www.timfleischer.com)
Take care all!!!! I'll post a pic of the build soon.

Just want to say thanks to Shane for including my song on the "Masters of Cigar Box Guitar Volume Four" cd. I got into this hobby back in Aug of '08, and I've been hooked ever since. It's really cool to have this web site as a resource for ideas.
Thanks, Mark

I've been lurking. Gathered a lot of information, cigar boxes and strings. I have banjo parts and am a woodworker so now I think I am set to make a cigarbox guitar. There is so much information and pictures that I just got a mental overload and have decided to just make what I consider a basic guitar then go from there. Oh, by the way, I can't play anything but I have been so impressed by the sound I am hearing on this site. Is anyone in the Spokan WA area?

Hi everyone,
My name is Tim Gale. I live at about 8600ft elevation in the mountains of Colorado. I enjoy experimenting with making unique musical instruments. For a while, I was really into making didgeridoos and drums(djembes, ashikos and doumbeks). I still build those by request. I came across some pics of some cbg's online totally by accident and have been hooked ever since. My first build was a three string with finish nail frets and elk antler bridge and nut. My second build was a three string dulcimer with toothpick frets for my kids. I am now working on my third build. I plan on using real frets on this one.

Thanks to all who have posted pics and tips on the sight. They have been a real inspiration to me. Here's to all the cigar smokers out there :).

Hello,
I've been lurking around here for a little while and thought it was about time to make an official appearance! What a great site, and what a great find - CBGs that is.
I'm a Brit, living not that far from London, however I unknowingly "self introduced" myself to CBGs when I was a teenager in Wales when I knocked up a 3 string electric in my dad's shed. A lot of under bridge water later and I'm now semi proficient in blues jamming on six strings, but I gotta admit (much to the families bemusement) that I'm becoming a big fan of the ole 3 string slide!

I have a long standing background in electronics (work and home) and sound engineering (as a hobby) so I hope to be able to offer something to the knowledge base on this cool and interesting site.

More soon, just wanted to say Hi! (pics of my Diecast CBG on my page),
Cheers

Hi everyone. I'm Sam. I've been playing and working on guitars for a while. After checking out some of the cool stuff on cigar box guitars, I'd like to try to make one. I'm thinking that I'd like to use a standard neck for my first one. I'm open to any suggestions.

BTW, I'm originally from Shrewsbury, PA. I notice that Shane is from York. Did you once have a music store in Shrewsbury?
