Hey you guys,
I'm an American guitar maker and I live in Japan full time. I had been wanting to make some instruments that were not formal guitars, and have had guitar maker friends put together cigar box banjos in the past and I took inspiration from that. Cigar boxes are difficult to get here, but there are piles of old fish packing boxes, so I pulled a few apart and made three string guitars with them. The folks around here fund them quite a hit and asked me to make a few ti sell. One guy asked for an electric fish box.....so I did some internet searching to find parts and uh yeah I found this wonderful site, with all the junk I need to make my junk easier to make.
I'm new to making this kind of instrument, but I'm totally fascinated. So hope I can steal, I mean learn some new ideas here.
regards,
Stephen Faulk

Dude, tell me the size of a cigar box you want and I'll try to find you one.
Right now I have a spare "Flor de Tabacos", Habana Cuba, sized 21x20x3 cm. It's small, but with some genius, it will do. I won't sell it, let's make a swap. If you're interested ...
My band is called Banzai and our name is a tribute to Japanese warriors - "Banzai charge" is when you attack with everything you've got and you know you are going to lose, but you charge anyway. That is what our music is about. We have no hope of of changing the world with our rock'n'roll, but at least we are trying to make a dent, never surrender ...
So find something Japanese for me and the box is yours. Something samurai-ish, even a T-shirt with Japanese flag, or a "My girlfriend went to Japan and bought me this lousy T-shirt (before she was raped by tentacles)" T-shirt... Or a cap with Japanese flag on or a Kamikaze bandana... Something to show off on stage :) What do you say?
Whatever works. Do they smell fishy?
Welcome Stephen.
Loved your video of the donkey herders fish box guitar. Those boxes sure have nice lettering and color.
Welcome to CBN. The kanji's on the back look so cool.
Like the cbg and the donkey
nice very nice fishbox
Thanks! These boxes are made of pine and hemlock fir, stuff like that.
Blues Frog, have your son go to any town with a commercial fishing fleet and look in the dumpsters next to the docks and ask the fisherman if it's ok to take old boxes.
Here's me with the donkey that lives near my shop...I need to take some lessons to learn to play...

Ima smack you with this guitar! That's funny right there.
I like the guit AND the donkey.
I'm gonna mention the boxes to my son and see what comes up with for me.
Nice looking box. My son is in Japan. I should have him try and find me a fish box and send it to me.
