Kiwi Guitarist

Hi,

As I indicated I'm in NZ. I have just made my first CBG and have used this forum heaps. so although my first one is finished I'm still adapting it and setting it up and loving it. I don't play slide so I pity my wife and children as I get the hang of this new style of guitar.

  • All the best to you, man. And welcome to the Nation! Yes, learning slide guitar is painful for all. But with dedication, you can master it quickly. Please, feel free to call on me or anyone here for help, if you need it.

  • Home made pine box, cedar top and bottom and kwila neck.

    •  Ilike the simple Old School look.   How do you like the sound?

    • Well.... its in open E and it took a bit of playing with strings to get it right, but now I'm using a low e and b and a high e from a standard string set. Now it sounds good. I really enjoy playing and tweaking the setup.

This one was the prototype. I wanted build one using the philosophy of poverty and the whole thing cost me about $8 with salvaged bits and scraps from here and there.

I have two boxes in the garage a Drew Estate and Padron to build the serious ones. I also want to build a wine box upright bass in time.

      What do you play?

    • I don’t play well, but I play and build 3 string, GDg tuning, piezo and/or mag pups.

im starting in on 4 string and several Ukuleles.

Building that for $8 is a sweet deal.   i really like the tone from Padron boxes.
I’m not a smoker, but many different branded boxes come from the Drew Estates,

btw I am eager to visit your beautiful country.

    • this is my current build.  A reso, 6 string, P90 pup, rod bridge piezo, internal piezos

  • I think I'll follow the build path. I just finished rebuilding my 1st CBG with the things I have learned. I also have 2 real cigar boxes ready for builds.

    • they a very rewarding to build and play

  • Someday they may thank you for learning.  If you catch the building bug, that may test the marriage vows
