My name is Mark. I'm from Kingston, Ontario, Canada. (about 3 hours drive east of Toronto), I am a theatre carpenter by trade, and have also been a guitar player for more years than I'd like to believe. I always wanted to combine my two passions and build my own guitar. While looking online for ideas and resources, I came across the cigar box guitar building community. It seemed like a fun first step into the instrument building world. I built my first in late 2013, but then in early 2015 I got back into it after moving to a new house with a backyard workshop. I'm currently working on #12, and gave myself some imaginary credibility by starting to build as "String on Box Primative Instruments".
I love seeing all the great work and crazy ideas throughout the community, and hope to contribute a few of my own.
I love the CBG world (and it's offshoots) due to the supportive and friendly online community that is so different from the "everybody that's not me and everything that's not what I like sucks!" experience in the online guitar world. And that "no rules" philosophy seems to fit my brain...
I also make music when I have time...
