Howdy guys (and gals) been involved in music for years now , played guitar for about 38 years , self taught , was forced to do 9 years of classical piano (didn`t take to it - though I have a couple of synths in my home studio) . Played in two bands , Crimson Head - political folk rock outfit , finalists in the Scottish Battle of the Bands in 86 and Pengelly , space rock psycadelic experimental band , anything goes kinda affair . But CBG`s , saw them first watching Seasick Steve , bought one , made one and never looked back , they are just a lot of fun and that's what music is meant to be about , and if you cant get a tune out of a 3 string slider it`s time to put a Luger in your ear and finish it off . In a nutshell , great fun

I have always loved music and guitars so when I discovered cbg's it was love at first sight. It feels great to be able to build instruments and now I have family members that want to build them as well. I see myself having a very long friendship with cbg's

I have never played an instrument and now that I have built a few and given them away to family and friends I am going to attempt to teach myself to play. I really enjoy the sound of this music and plan on playing myself soon.

CBGs have opened a whole new world to me. Before I got involved with building these crazy boxes, my primary interest in music had been listening to other people performing and as a background to my daily activities from the radio. Now that I have built my own instruments I am trying to teach myself to play well enough that I can amuse myself and eventually I hope to be able to join in some informal jams with friends. I'm fortunate that I have a few skilled musicians as friends who have played my CBGs on stage and they sound pretty dang good in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. All the more incentive to learn how to play myself.

I don't build CBGs to sell, but have given them away as presents to friends who like them and have a couple of people who have asked me to build them one. Being retired, they offer a relaxing hobby to fill my spare time and I'm trying to collect the whole set and my wife is supportive even as the hall wall is becoming covered with my builds. The amazing thing is that it seems like every time I build a new one, I seem to get at least one new box given to me from someone. I have 11 builds so far, (1 Cookie Tim Guitar, 4 canjos and 6 CBGs) and have 7 cigar boxes, 3 cookie tins, 2 wine boxes and a half dozen or more assorted cans on the shelf for canjos. I'll be 67 this year and at this rate I'm going to be building well into my 80s. Never realized how much fun could be found in something so simple. Thankful for all the friends here that make it so and all the inspiration to be found in the nation.

That a pretty cool list Ron - its what I'm talking about the amazing synergy that makes these so much more than a box, a stick and some strings. They are magical tools of transformation...

CBGs have caused me to do several things:
1) Stack lots of wood indoors
2) Take an unholy interest in skips and dumpsters
3) Amaze my friends
4) Amaze myself
5) Honor a 30-year-old promise I made to myself to make an album of original music (coming this month!)
6) Meet interesting talented people online, and exchange bits of my life with them
7) Become exposed to some amazing music and musicians from all over the world
8) Become a record producer, and contributor to 3 albums
9) Learned music in an even deeper technical way (still ongoing, never ending)
10) Increased my Guitarsenal substantially while staying married

thanks a lot! I'd really encourage you to do a vid when you're ready..the comments from people on here will help to move you on. The worst that can happen is you feel a bit stupid. I know I did, and still do, but no one ever died of feeling stupid. Life is short, don't let that stop you from doing what you want..

Thanks, Bemuzic!  I can recall watching you from your first cbg and you were gutsy and shared your early talent with us.  Look at where you are now!!  You inspire me, and I often think of you when I play.  I remind myself of where you started and how far you've come.  And of course I listen to your music for inspiration and personal enjoyment as well!!
