Hi,

I want to build each of my daughters an amp for their CBGs that I made for them. One I will be putting in a lunchbox and one a cigar box. I need a little (or more than a little) direction. I have some old baby advent II speakers that I was considering taking the speakers out of for this. If I remember correctly they are 80 (or maybe 40) watts. I've had them for about 20 years. Would they be a good option? In terms of amp modules to use what is recommended? I would also like to wire so the can be battery operated or run by a DC adapter if possible. Any advice about what parts I need is greatly appreciated. I have no knowledge of this kind of stuff.

Thanks for the help,
Mike

Hey Mike,

Good luck.  It'll be fun and you'll learn along the way.  There's so much written about CBG amps that it can be overwhelming.  One option would be to consider a "kit".  http://www.cbgitty.com/amp-kits/  It has all the parts you need and instructions for putting it together that makes it straightforward.  You can also Google or Ebay CBG amp kits and find all sorts of options.  Tone Monster (store on eBay) also has numerous pre-wired and harnessed options to put into your own box, with different sizes and options.  You can build your own with components and a printed circuit board and do your own soldering and wiring as well.  Just depends on what you want to do.

Thank you both. I have a couple of books that were given to me over the holidays that had various cool projects to try and both have an amp to try so will try working off one of those plans. The speakers I have may be too much for this I will need to look. They have just been sitting idle and wanted to put them to use rather than buy new because I like to reuse stuff and I am cheap :)

I let you know how I do. The CBG I made for my youngest daughter having a sound hole shaped as a Mickey Mouse is getting the lunchbox amp. It is a Walt Disney World themed box that has Mickey on one side and the country bears on the other compete with some box instruments so figured was the perfect choice....

I actually have one and might do that with it...  It sounds decent for it's size and no frills.  My only gripe with it would be resolved if I did that, is it very easy to knock over.  I keep it on the floor when using becuase it is so easy to pull off of whatever it is on because it is so light.  hmm, i may do that for her tonight and surprise her...
