All Ya'll folks that are just building your first CBG or are looking at making your next one better AND are planning on making the head to be bent back at and angle instead of the traditional straight head, here are some basic drawings that will illustrate how to do a scarf head with some sort of decorative sides.

If you want to see some examples, look through the PHOTOs section and you will see some really good examples. -Wes

J.K. asked about using Ash for a neck. Around here, things like pick-axe and sledge-hammer handles are made from Ash - and I've used them for a neck before. It's pretty string to begin with but if you split it, turn it over, and glue it back together to make a laminated neck then it is even stronger. We can't get maple around here at a good price, so Ash from handles works well instead.

To All on CBN,
I want to thank all contributers, players, builders, artists that give insite into builds and playing. I was about to purchase a CBG but then found out people actually build these and found this site. I just finished my 1st Acoustic 4 String Frettless CBG. Not only do I think mine came out well and looks good (Not as good as some of the high end models I see on this site) it even made music at 1am this morning! I was blown away with the volume this little box made. I'm officially addicted, the plans are in for many other models both electric and fretted.

Wood and Cigar Box free...
Parts and strings under $30.00...
A labor of Love, Fun, and Muusic Priceless...

Oh Yeah, photos are posted. ;)

Anyone here tried working with ash before? The type that grows here isn't swamp-ash or such and I think it's a bit more dense than the American kind. I've seen it used on guitar bodies before and was wondering how it'd work out as a neck.

I've been using titebond for years...but...I'm wondering if there is better glue
that dries quicker/better for gluing down a fretboard....

Ham,

With piezos you don't need to ground the strings... piezos pick up mechanical vibrations. Magnetic pickups (wire wrapped around magnets) pickup up changes in the electro-magnetic field, so the strings usually need to be grounded and the gizzards shields... send Ted an email to confirm, but I'm sure I'm right...

the best,

Wichita Sam

thanks Sam
wiring and elec. is all new to me with the caps and resistors and all this stuff. I do have another question for you though. I bought one of Ted Crocker's wiring harness's. it comes with a bridge ground wire. I dont have a metal bridge on my CBD so where do I solder it??? i want to try the two piezo with this harness. I hope it works.

Anthony, Thanks for the thanks.... Hamhock, Try different places.... I most often embedd the piezos in a bridge plate (often string thru) with the piezos located under the locations approximating the ends of the bridge... This pic

is of a 3 string ultra short scale bass with two piezos are under the bridge plate, above the top, located in front of the string thrus, under the brass bar bridge. This little bass smokes with old standup bass deep tones and a full range bass thru treble...

This second pic is a pic of a little tenor guitar, again with dual piezos embedded in the bridge plate and above the top. Again, great range and balanced tone. Give it a try and see how it works for you... the best, Wichita Sam
