I just finished my first fretted CBG, but I had to use glue. What kind of glue if so, it's hard getting it down into that little groove? And I could still feel a couple sharp edges on the fret wire even after grinding down.

It does indeed. I'm planning my first fretted cbg, but I've done all builds so far without having to buy new tools. I was hoping to continue that way ;-)

junior hack saw fine... that's what I used at first, then graduated to a flush cut saw (Harbor Frieght less than $ 10). Big Daddy (Darren Dukes) used a scroll saw, and I'm now working with a dremel rotary saw attachment and a jig.

When fitting frets, is a fret saw necessary, or will a junior hacksaw do the job (does it cut too wide a slot?)

Roy Underhill has been around for ages -- 29 years. He has featured many old tyme methods in which local woodworkers or even farmers solved simple tasks. I can't tell you how many thing this guy has made or what he's capable of. He a part of UNC-TV which is the NC public broadcast educational network. He had an episode a while back with Steve "Crazy Bear" Watts.
