Planning my next guitar, I have an Arturo Fuente box and have seen them done both ways. Give me the pro's and cons of building it back to the front or label side to the front. I know the lid is thick but I kind of like the label, how much is the soun
I've visited the usual suspects, ebay, Stew Mac and goodle and have seen the base price for 6 economy pegs is about 9-12 bucks. I'm on my way to a electronics fixit shop in Falmouth Mass. It's been ar
You CBG veterans are probably sick of this question, so forgive me: I've made a 4 string CBG using a straight, dry piece of 1X3 red oak for the neck. I hand planed to the approximate shape of the neck on an electric guitar we have. The fret scale i
Assume the neck of the guitar is glued to the under side of the lid, assume a neck through body construction, should the piezo be mounted to the under side of the lid or the bottom of the box? Also should it be place towards the head or bridge?
Can someone talk me thru the assembly and mounting of a resonator? I have the top piece, the cone, the biscuit and a wooden bridge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ya'll, I'm very new here and to building cigar box guitars. I've just about finished my first and have a question about putting a finish on the fret board. What if anything would one use? It is a walnut fret board and it is fretted.
Thanks for an
I was just wondering why use a fret board? i see lots of CBG's that have them and was wondering what is the advantage? Must be harder to make and align?
Also wondered about running frets down into the body of the box with fret board instead of just o
What is the average size of the cigar box used for most 3 string guitars? I was at a cigar shop the other day and they just look small, but now I'm thinking they were probably ok. My dad has a few old box's that held 50 cigars, they look small too. I
Don't laugh too much, then again, why not? Here is something I am thinking, If you find a large box, like an old fruit box or tea chest that is too large to use for a guitar and is most likely only good for storing stuff in or is damaged to some degr
I want to build a three string CBG and was wondering how do you determine what scale length to use.
P.S. I don't know squat about string instruments. Actually any instrument. I just want to play.
My second build was a CBG dulcimer for my kids. I cut out four one inch hearts, one in each corner of the box. The sound is not nearly as good as my first build. My first build had two 11/2 inch holes close to the neck end of the box. I've noticed th
I am contemplating my first build and would like some ideas for the tuners. I intend to build a simple cbg, 3 string fretless. Besides using guitar tuners what can be made from old stuff into a workable tuner machine? Also would a piece of mahogany b
Hi from Australia, I have made a few guitars already but the only boxes I have been able to get are the "plywood" boxes so far not the solid wooden boxes often shown on this site.
I purchased a "wooden" cigar box off Ebay only to find out it is a MDF

What finishes do people use on necks (or wooden boxes for that matter)?
I have some Danish oil which I used on another project some years ago and was thinking of going with that, but I presume others here will know what does or does not work well.
Hi to all. I'm brand spankin' new here, and burning up brain cells trying to soak up all the knowledge on these pages. I play acoustic guitar, so I've decided to build a simple, fretless slide type 3 stringer straight from the instructions here. I co
Ok - don't beat me up too much on this. I'm making my first CBG and didn't have the bandsaw/tools to widdle my own neck. I bought a neck and wire fretted the fretboard and glued together. I looks ok I guess. My question: is there something that I can
So today I visited three cigar shops, A440 tuning fork in hand, listening to the resonant qualities of any promising-looking box I could find. Yes, I got some strange looks, but I'm used to that. Never one for moderation, I came home with 14 boxes th
About to build my first instrument, and it occurred to me looking at this stuff before I start that my plan must be to surround the cigar box with new tools until it relents and becomes a diddley-bo.
