Upside down or right side up?

Planning my next guitar, I have an Arturo Fuente box and have seen them done both ways. Give me the pro's and cons of building it back to the front or label side to the front. I know the lid is thick but I kind of like the label, how much is the sound affected by the thinner back?

  • OK, I decided to keep it label side up, I scraped the paper off the inside and a layer of wood (its a plywood top). Its not as thin as the back but I think this will help.
  • Corey has it right... if you're going to be playing it acoustic much at all, build on the bottom... Amped, either way, although, unless the graphic top is to die for, I almost always build in the bottom....

  • I'm still pretty new to all of this, and only have couple of builds under my belt, but it's my understanding that the thinner the top, the more it will vibrate. If it's going to be mainly electric, it won't matter as much. It's very interesting, the sounds that come out of these things acoustically. Of course, looking good counts as well ;-)
