I have been doing a workshop on cigar box baritone ukes at a local maker space that is run by a public library. The workshop is free and the library is willing to pay for everything, but I still think I would like to trim costs where I can. I have learned that buying really cheap machines is not worth it. Sam goes for decent quality wood for necks. I was wondering though if strings could be bought in bulk, like maybe on a large reel. I figured that guitar factories might use such a thing.

I’m a bit late, but they do sell strings in bulk. Music stores buy them in bulk lots so as to cater to players who like to make custom sets. They come in singles since one end has a ball stop
