Questions about CBG details...

Started my first CBG kit build yesterday (12/9), full CBG kit.

First, making a mockup neck to figure things out.

Want to use hardtail and surface mount thin humbucker (like Wickedbucker).

Angle molding corner bracing a la Shane.

Neck supports both ends.

Butt end of neck will remain internal, no notch to cut,

1/4" birch plate to re-enforce hardtail mount.

Going to build dummy neck first to work out kinks.

Two areas of concern, I'm having a hard time visualizing this. 1. Neck butt end will need a clearance cut for the birch hardtail support plate, right? 2. The surface mount pup....I think they're about 1/4" thick, right? So I think that means that the entire butt end relief needs to be deepened 1/4" or more so that the fretboard is no longer level with the top, but raised to a level higher than the pup, right? That also means the neck notch will be shallower, right? So I think the cut sequence should be to cut the neck clearance to set fretboard height above the pup, then cut the hardtail support plate clearance to fit.

Since this will be a mag pup, not piezo, does the underside of the lid still need to 'float', or can it be in contact with the neck?

Easier to visualize if you included pics. define hardtail, do you mean a 3 string bridge? fyi, all guitars without a tremelo are hardtail? The reason for lid clearance doesn't have anything to do with pickups, it allows for acoustic vibration across the box, making it louder?

Yep, a 3-string metal bridge. So, of it were to be only electric, I don't need clearance, but if it were to be played either way, have a slight gap?

I'm saying that whether it has a pickup or not , it needs clearance between the lid? The box is thick enough to handle that bridge? Maybe you might check out some Del Puckett videos, he covers some of these basic topics?

BrianQ is leading you down a good path. Clearance between the lid and the neck really isn't a concern if you don't intend to play it acoustically. As you raise the neck to have your fretboard above the lid and high enough for the strings to clear the pup by an appropriate amount, your bridge will need to be taller too, so depending on what kind of bridge they include with the kit you may need to rework that or build one on your own.
