Planning my first CBG

Hello everyone. Today, I'm laying out my first CBG. It will be a 4 string, 25.5 scale, and 24 fret. I think I have things somewhat planned. I'm not sure how well the pics will show up, but does anyone have any criticism? Especially negative criticism, that's what I need. I've done a lot of reading, but really don't know 100% what I'm doing yet. Thanks! Trey

  • Looks good to me, and cool box too. A lot of people take a thin cut off the neck inside the box so the top only touches the neck at each end. This lets the top move more freely. When I did this I glued the cut off piece to the bottom of the neck to maintain the thickness.
  • Looking at the layout picture, is this to be a left handed guitar?

    • It will be right handed. I had the box upside down. Hopefully I avoid this mistake when it comes time to cut.
    • That's why I mentioned it. Looks like you have it going on. After you get it built,it will become evident what you over thought and what you should have thought more about. That's when  you'll build the next one and the one after that....welcome to the addiction.

    • Having thought about it some more.I would highly recommend laying it out correctly now to avoid confuion later. The way it is now the pup and bridge positions need to be moved. Would hate to see you cut the pup in the wrong end of the box. Good luck with everything and keep us posted!

    • Which way do they need to be moved, how much, and why? Thank you for the criticism, I need it. I have turned everything around so that it isn't left handed anymore.
    • When you turn it around, the pup and bridge positions will also swap. Just didn't want to see you mess up a great box. Can't waitto see and hear how it turns out.

    • Agree with John, flip the box so the hinge side is up as you intend, then re-tape your bridge and pickup template for that right handed orientation. Love that box, is it painted or paper, and plywood?
    • I already flipped it. I also wrote on my notebook in big letters to not build it upside down. It's painted solid wood. I thought it was going to be a little small, but I like it.
  • Love the layout so far. About the only thought I had aside from AP's neck question is whether you'll have room to make use of 24 frets. Have you laid that out on your template yet?
