some mount at an angle for different reasons . one is to try and match up the pole / string spacing better , and they believe it looks better with 6 poles on 3 strings that way .
and the placement actually effects tone too . top slanted forward will add more bass to the fat string . and more ting to the bottom , and vice versa.
body space can be an issue too.

forward = towards the neck . backward = towards the bridge .
even without slanting the pickup .. placement closer to bridge will give a brighter .tinny tone .. closer to the neck = more warm and full / nice bass .
