Hole cutting bits for Dremel

I have just got together most of what I need for my first build, I have only basic tools and little to no woodwork experience.  I have a Dremel tool which I used to use for model making and I would like to know if it is possible to get hole cutting drill bits for use with Dremels?  I would like to cut sound holes as neatly as possible so that my first one can look as nice as my limited skills allow.  Any advice on this gratefully received.  Thanks.

  • The bit is called a downward cutting bit.
  • Old or new Dremel? I use the ones for a roto zip. I cut about 1/2inch off end of the bit and use a router base for my Dremel.
Mask off the intended hole or F hole area with blue painters tape mark out sound hole drill pilot hole and use Dremel to cut out shape. Do the cut just inside the shape and then sand up to the line. All of my guitar sound holes on my page were done using this method. Tried others found this to work on sound holes and neck pockets. P.S. I also use small strips of wood with sand paper spray adhesive to them. Dowels, pop cycles sticks and chop sticks work great to get into small spaces. Welcome to CBGA = cigar box guitar addition.
    • emery boards can also be used to sand in tight spaces

  • I don't know if you can get hole cutters big enough for a Dremel ... but you can get them in various sizes for a standard drill. Still, sometimes you can't find the correct size to pair to your sound hole cover or insert. Then you might have to resort to some hand work and finish with file and sand paper.
