I just finished my first cigar box concert uke. Made from an Oliva box, oak neck. 15" scale, tuned g c e a. For a fairly thick box, it sounds pretty good!

I did a scarf joint to angle the headstock. Next time I think I'll add a fretboard on top of the neck to get some more height above the surface of the box & a more extreme string angle at the bridge.
Yes thats a good method..thats the method i use on my CBU's It works well along with the scarf joint, plus if you add the fretboard ontop you can hide the joint as well.
