Comment by Diane in Chicago on November 19, 2009 at 4:23am: Sides are on, braces are just now glued to the inside back. Trying to dig up a bike tire innertube to use as a roundabout brace while the glue dried on the side seams.

Fingerboard is fretted and oiled and drying. Assemble the fingerboard box tomorrow or Friday.

Friday cut out the top, cut sound holes.

Monday figure out what to do about a tailpiece. I got nuthin there so far.

I lose the woodshop the first week in December, so I'm hustling to get the big stuff cut before then. Finish work I can do at home.

Comment by Diane in Chicago on November 18, 2009 at 5:53am: So many, many things I'll do differently next time . . . . but that box is a good starting place if you are looking. You can only be 4.5 inches wide in the playing zone (above the bridge), so those cutouts/soundholes served both purposes. I have a few other long narrow boxes that might be a fiddle one day, or another bowed dulcimer/lap cello/thingy. And you need a LOT of neck angle, more than I had. I'll measure up my "real" fiddle one day soon and post the critical dimensions.
