Getting to first bass

I threw this together last night.  The only thing that has kept me from trying a bass before is the cost of the strings.  I saw this paddle at a sporting goods store and it just cried out "string me!".  So I did.  I have played with different open tunings and it sounds really good.

I am going to add some tone and volume pots to it soon.

  • I showed the bass to a local musician/song writer and he seems interested in having one.

  • Great idea!

  • Very interesting! Now, can you make a amp out of a life vest? I like your "adjustable" bridges made from the screws, never thought of that. The cheapest bass strings I've found are at Musician's Friend, they're Musician's Gear or something like that (less than $10). Just do a search under bass strings starting with cheapest first, you can't miss them. Remember, you get what you pay for but they're good enough for this kind of stuff. Keep up the good work.

    • Thanks Bob,

I can't take credit for the adjustable bridge: one of the other builders at CBN shared it.  I could not find the original post to give credit as it is a great idea.
