Please read the post, check out the Lt. Dan Band Movie and the Gary Sinise Foundation, and then you'll understand the idea I had. Some background:

Dan and I collaborated heavily, with a number of CBN members, to gift Shane Speal his Harrison Withers' Ghettoborn earleir this month. This morning, I had a different idea. I had already taken up Dan's challenge to purchase the Lt. Dan Band Movie, and decided to get a cap, T-shirt, bracelet, and make a revolving $10 per month donation to the Gary Sinise Foundation as well. Then I was browsing around the CGBs for Soldiers Group here at CBN, when a thought hit me:

"Wouldn't it be highly kewl, since Gary is a bass player, to kill several birds with one stone? What if one of the CBG bass builders at Cigar Box Nation were to build an electrified CBG bass, send it to Gary, and ask him to play it onstage during one of his USO shows? In addition, what if we mentioned the CBGs for Soldiers program at CBN to him, and asked him to maybe promote it at one of his shows? Maybe then we'd get some more soldiers asking for instruments; there seems to have been a dry spell recently, even thoughthere are lots of builders ready and willing to maek CBGs for Soldiers for the holidays. Wouldn't that be a kewl idea? What if we could make it happen?"

I've run this idea past Dan Sleep, who was thinking something similar; he's currently working on a Lt. Dan tribute Telecaster kit guitar, the graphic for which John Maw did for him (check it out at the above discussion link). I don't want to steal Dan's (Sleep's, that is) thunder, but I just thought the idea of a CBG bass in the hands of Gary Sinise would be awesome.

So ladies and gents, I'm tossing the idea out there to you. Does anyone here want to take this on with me? I'm willing to contact the Foundation, tell 'em the idea, see if we could make it happen. Would one of you want to join me in this project? None of us would be doing this for any financial reward; it would simply be to say Thanks to Gary for all the work he is doing to support America's service men and women and their families. I also urge you to buy the movie, as the Foundation is trying to raise $50 K before Christmas to help out some military families, and if you can afford to, to join the Foundation and make a donation. They accept as little as $5, or as high as you are willing and able to go. This is just another way to say Thank You! to our brave service men and women, who safeguard our freedoms, and put themselves in harm's way so we don't have to (even if it's in a cause that may not look very doable, or seems silly in retrospect). It's also a way to get the idea of CBGs in front of the public, a well known actor, and more service personnel.

What say you?

Oily
