bass frets...

soon I'll be back onto my making a bass guitar out of an old violin.

when folks talk of 30" scale that is from the nut to the bridge right?

my son has my old 4 string bass not sure what scale length that is.

the same as this one on ebay.

can I use the scale off that for a 30"?

  • now that the frets are done.

not sure what ti use for the tail piece.

I've made a s/steel out of .8mm thick plate curved to give it strength.its for a 2 stringed bass.

just want to get ideas before I stick this only to find some one has come up with a better idea.

so the question is what do you guys use? any pictures. rgds john

  • 30" from nut to bridge (saddles), or 15" from either to the twelfth fret.

That bass in your link has a 34" scale.

I have a fretcalc program somewhere that prints out the lengths if you like, and theres probably one at stewmac.com, or most violin basses (beatles basses) or Gibson SG style basses are 30" if you need a hardcopy.
