New builder here. I just pulled the ear piece out of a cordless phone and would like to know if this is a piezo or some other speaker/mic device. It picks up sound from a guitar when hooked to a wire and plugged into my amp. I just set it on the body of a guitar and strummed the strings and I do get sound. Has anyone used one of these before? Thanks.

Follow up on this. The phone earpiece is a mic type pickup. I pulled a real piezo out of a smoke detector and attached it to a makeshift one string priority mail box and 2 x3 stick. With a piece of thick fishing line it worked much better than the phone mic.
I taped it down, mic side down, to an accustic guitar. Sound is good, needs lots of volume and gain on my amp, it also picks up lots of finger sliding noise from the strings. I don't think it's a piezo, more of a tiny speaker. I think I will use it as the price is right, now I just need a box to put it in.
Probably a piezo . Try taping it down (with scotch or masking tape) on the guitar body & see how it sounds with more "contact" . If it sounds decent , use it .... 8^D
