    If you turn the Pot over to the knob side, look at the opposite end from the end with the lugs that you solder onto. There, it should say Ak500(usually printed in white) or something like that, this is an A-Pot usually used as the Volume Pot. If it says Bk500 (usually printed in white) it is a B-Pot, usually used as a Tone Pot. I hope that is clear,

    usually an A-pot is a Volume pot and a B-pot is the Tone, if you get them the wrong way round it will not work right, if you use 2 A-pots it will not work right, both things I have seen done ! 500k is right, look on ebay, you should be able to get a pair of matching pots for about £5, you will need a capacitor as well for the Tone pot. If you need a wiring diagram, let me know.
