  • I agree with John Rivers the strings need grounding. Also it has a single coil and you do get some electrical hum with them (nearby electrical items make it much worse especially eco bulbs and computers). If you have ever looked inside a regular electric guitar you will see they all have some basic shielding in the form of copper or aluminium foil that the pot shaft pushes through ( both work equally as well and you buy it as self adhesive sheets or tape). Usually only a small area over the pots is shielded. Adding a strip on the underside of the box lid where your pots fit through the box lid may improve things.
    I have tried some of these prewired kits and found the soldering to vary greatly in quality. If you have a continuity tester it might be worth checking the solder points are okay.
