CBG Tabs

So you built your CBG and now you need something to play on it, right? Well, if you're not completely musically inclined or can't read traditional music, tabs are your answer. If you're like me, you read tabs and sometimes make them. Paste'em here.

Remember...

Tabs here is as a learning tool -- NOT for profit.

I'll also upload some blank tab sheets. Just let me know what you think and if I need to add anything.

Ack! The rhythm marks won't line up - but the spacing of the numbers roughly proportional to the time.

Hmmm... it got cut off. Let's try it this way:

\ \ \ \
\ \ \\ \\ \ \
\ \ \\ \\ \ \
0x0x0x0x|0x0x0x0x|03 035|7 7 57 7|530 |

Notes:
x = damp the string while hitting it.
\s are rhythm marks. 2 \s is a quarter note; 3 is an eighth note. Unmarked notes are the same length as the preceding note.
The last measure is only 2 beats long (others are 4).
This riff is repeated on the diddley bow all the way through the song.

OK, here's the diddley bow tab for Dark Cloud Coming which is on both my new CD, Falling from the Sky and on the One-string comp CD Joker has put together:

\ \ \ \\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \
\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \

0 x 0 x 0 x 0 x | 0 x 0 x 0 x 0 x | 0 3 0 3 5 | 7 7 5 7 7 | 5 3 0 |

Notes:
x = damp the string while hitting it.
\s are rhythm marks. 2 \s is a quarter note; 3 is an eighth note. Unmarked notes are the same length as the preceding note.

Here is a link to tabs from one of our members, Dennis Brooker. Thanks Dennis:

Here's is a link to a webpage on my website http://www.dbrooker.com/songtabs.htmlwhere you can down load a PDF that has a few songs tabed out using numbers for each fret to play the note of a song using a single string AKA diddley bow - Some years ago I figured it was easier for beginners to relate to numbers rather than notes - I've gotten more than a few "Thank yous" for them over the years - The people who thanked me were true beginners and were so happy they could down load the songs and play something in just minutes - Feel free to down load the PDF and pass it along or make it available to others in any way you wish - put it on your website so others can download it, print it out and give it a way, whatever - You can give me credit or not, I did not copyright it and my name is not on it - Just thought I would make the offer - Dennis Brooker

I found a site with a dulcimer to guitar fret number chart.

A little white out and a pen will help too!

Yeah, I googled dulcimer music tabs and got this one:

www.everythingdulcimer.com/tab/

I was looking for dulcimer music or at least older music to use for CBG. Most there are DAD or DAA.

Hmmm that should have worked David, it being the B string. C is one semitone up. Currently I am tuned DGBD and have tuned CECE before so I know it should work. Hmmmm. and I'm using cheap crappo 12ga "light" strings (dunno the B string ga).

What tuning were you going for? Something in the CEGC perhaps? What did you break?!?

Hello Wes, and all you TAB groupers...Im new to 3 and 4 string instruments and really suck on a 6 stringer lol, but Im learning. I just finished building a 4 string Java box today and broke a string trying to find a C tuning on my 2nd string. I am plugged into a tuner as i dont have an ear for tuning. No matter which way i tuned there was not a C to be found. I finally went on to something else b4 I lost all patience and broke the damn thing. I could use a little help........ the gauge on the string I broke was probably about a 14 or a "b" string.
