Homemade Guitars

This is the group for homemade instruments that venture out from the standard cigar box guitar.

Post photos of your oil can guitars, broomstick banjos and just whatever you are working on in your shop.

We want to see it!

I have a 1968 (year I was born) texaco oil can i have been saving for a guit. Thanks for starting the group. I will try to feed off of it for ideas untill I dare tear my can up. I am thinking of building it with a semi hollow design. with the majority of the hollow portion filled with expanding foam. to give the can rigidity. Im guessin it wont hurt the tone too much on an electric I just have to figure the method for making it accesible for repair if a solder joint goes bad. Or a pickup or pot requires replacement.

I vote Super Chicken for Group leader!!!!

James "Super Chikan" Johnson playing one of his famous gas can guitars at the Cat Head Mini Fest on Sunday outside the front door of Cat Head Records. Roger Stolle, the owner of Cat Head Records looks on, holding raffle ticket box to give away the guitar. I think Super Chikan calls it a "Chik-can guitar".
