Welcome!

This is a Group for anyone living in the great state of California, who builds, plays, or is just a fan of Cigar Box Guitars, and similar Handmade instruments. If you don't want to say exactly where you live, just say Northern, Southern, etc. I want to be abreast of any major gatherings...this summer is out, for me, but maybe next....

We are going to have a building contest which starts at the Sac Area CBG Workshop on June 3rd and ends at our next meeting on  August 5th.  I have 6 identical, unique cigar boxes, and the challenge will be to build a neck through 3 or 4 string banjo, ukulele or guitar.  You don't get to see the cigar box until you have committed to take on the task.  Each contestant who completes the build and plays the CBG will receive a special cigar box gift at the meeting on August 5th.  See you all on June 3rd.

Well it's time for another Sacramento Area Cigar Box Guitar Workshop.  1pm on Saturday June 3, 2017 we will meet at The Strum Shop at 209 S. Vernon St., Roseville, CA 95678.  Attendance continues to be low....only 4 people attended the meeting in April.  If we are to continue, we will need more CBGer's to show up and show us what they are doing.

Saturday, April 1st at 1pm at The Strum Shop at 209 S. Vernon St., Roseville, CA 95678 is the next meeting of the Sacramento Area Cigar Box Guitar Workshop.  We will have a raffle for a Masterpiece Hemingway box.  All you need to do to get a free entry ticket is: 1. Buy a cigar box; 2. Play a song on your CBG; or 3. Bring me an empty clean can, preferable with the label, so I can make some canjos for a Ukes for Schools project.  Only can opener type cans, pull top cans don't work for me...soup, beans any small 303 can.  I have some very nice boxes for sale and we will, as always, have a show & tell, and lots of CBUkeleles.  Come join us.

Saturday, April 1st at 1pm at The Strum Shop at 209 S. Vernon St., Roseville, CA 95678 is the next meeting of the Sacramento Area Cigar Box Guitar Workshop.  They no longer have use of the music room in the back, so we will meet in the main store.  I have at least one of every uke that we built for Ukes For Schools, so lets make this a Uke and other build meeting.  Lets get some music going along with our show & tell.  I have tons of guitar making cigar boxes, so bring your cash!  The parking lot in back is still under construction, so the bank lot across Lincoln street is the best bet.  Bring all your builds and lets have some fun!

The Next meeting of the Sacramento Area CBG Workshop is Nov 12th at 12 non at the Strum Shop in downtown Roseville.  We didn't get around to making music at the last meeting, so we will try that again, as well as a show & tell.  We will have some Christmas Canjos for sale for $35 and Christmas ukulele kits in all 3 sizes for $50.  If you have your own can, get it to me at the strum on the 5th, so I can cut the holes.  We don't meet ing Dec, so this will be our last meeting in 2016.  Next year we have kit builds planned for Mag puckup/steel string ukes and CB Dulcimers.

November meeting kit project

We had 17 people attend the meeting on Sept 10th including 2 youngsters with their parents, who built and explained how they did it.  Our next meeting is Saturday, Oct 15th at 12 noon at the Strum Shop, where we will build the Ukes For Schools ukulele and have a regular meeting with show & tell and some play'in. At the November 12th meeting, we will put together some Christmas Canukes from kits.  Order from me ASAP.  The Rocklin Maker Faire on Saturday, October 1st was a lot of fun and we sold a lot of decorative cigar boxes for Ukes For Schools.  I big thankyou to the help of members of the River City Ukes playing from 9am to 5pm to attract people to our booth.  I sold 4 youth size & 2 adult size diddley bows for $25 for Ukes For Schools. The biggest thanks to Scott Hersch, who has helped me with the Maker Fair for both years....I could not have begun to do it without him.

Yes, the workshop is still on for 1 pm on Saturday, Sept 10th.

Just checking to verify that the workshop is still on for tomorrow, 9/10 (1pm) at the Strum Shop in Roseville. I am assuming it is.

Hello fellow Golden State cohorts. I am hailing from Modesto California, grew up in the Bay Area and now work here in Modesto. I don't build CBGs, but I do buy them and play.
