Hello - Have just ordered my first CBG kit and am really pumped to build it. Have been doodling on blues on guitars and am looking at the 3 string as another way to play some blues. Back in my salad days I was a designer of high speed logic boards (motherboards) for over a decade. So I do know which end of a resistor to use but all that time and work was pure digital. So I am really re-schooling my self on this amazing and weird analog stuff. Certainly looking to learn a lot and or give some help.
I've beed working on mainly low power amps to just over a watt or so. And I do have a rough circuit that can drive a Fender or Marshall tone stack. So I want to take some of this and make a cigar box amp. SO my question is are there preferred sources - brands for 4" or 5" speakers ?
Finally - just starting to look at ordering some JRC2073 which look to have more wattage than LM386s. Has anyone used these --- I know that they are used in CB Gitty's 2.5 amp module.

Thanks a bunch for the info - the Boss Audio speakers look great. Also cruising Ebay for suitable larger boxes. Last fall I built my first ever guitar speaker - cab using an 8" Jensen MOD guitar speaker.
I 2nd the Ruby circuit. I build it into a pedal and plug it into any cabinet.
I've always been very happy with the Boss BRS40 http://www.amazon.com/BOSS-Audio-BRS40-Replacement-Speakers/dp/B001...
I built a few 386 amps: Ruby and Noisy Cricket and always use this speaker because it's very efficient (=LOUD):
