working on 2 songs with a local female bass player singer Angel from Montgomery i did in E she does it in D so (DGbd). the other song is Goldust Woman im tuned (DGdg) she wants a video so stay tuned
The size of the strings and the length of the guitar scale are 2 variables that each affect the note that plays. Given the 3 strings that you have, there is a limited range of pitches you can tune to.
If the 3 open strings are pitched too high (you're saying they are GDg) you can lower them as as you like, and keep the same relative notes (intervals) between them. This is G as root, D as the major 5th (7 steps above the root), g as the octave (12 steps above the root G or 5 steps above the D). Then you play the guitar just as you always do, since the relative notes are the same.
Saying this another way: tune the lowest (bass) string to whatever sounds good to you. Tune the middle string to match the 7th fret of the lowest string. Then tune the highest (treble) string to match the 5th fret of the middle string.
For example, if you lower all 3 strings down by 2 steps you get FEf. This means detuning the lowest string 2 steps (by whatever reference you have, even could be a song on the radio), detuning the middle to match the 7th fret of the lowest string, then detuning the highest string to match the 5th fret of the middle string.
Hope this helps.
well lets see a 44 is an A string so tune it down from A to G 1 full step. a 30 is a D string so its ok. and a 22 is a G string so you only have 1 string tuned down a full step and 2 tuned reg if you have a standard tuned guitar around plunk is strings for a reference tone or use a tuner remember that the 44 is an A string tuned down. this all applies to standard 23" scale length guitars. measure from the nut to the bridge. feel the strings if there to tight they get real hard hope it helps
