I got a silverware box from Goodwill for 50 cents because the young people running the store didn't know what it was. LOLI bought one awhile back and gave it to my wife to use as a jewelry box, but I…Continue

I like to take along a guitar when we travel, but I worry about banging up a full sized acoustic. After looking over the available Travel guitars, I decided to build my own.…Continue

This is the second CBG I've built. Used red oak from a big box store for the neck. (It's what I can find and afford). Wired in a humbucker and a parallel wired pair of piezo disks to aftermarket…Continue

I have just joined this group ,cant figure out how to post photos.help please.
My first 6-string build, with a Washburn neck, Fender ashtray bridge and humbucking pickup. Done for a friend, who supplied the box-- this is a fantastic box, by the way.
Nice build!
How do you folks go about selling your CBG's. What kind of venue do you recommend, and conversely not recommend. I have built 2 CBG's and was able to sell the first one. The second one I am having a little difficulty. Now working on my third build, and have one commission on the bench to follow it. Who ever said that this was addicting, was not kidding around. I want to build more and more and more, eventually branching out to other types of CBG's.
Thanks in advance.

Six stringer #5...build #59. This one has a hand made figured maple neck w/ truss rod. Rosewood fingerboard, 21 frets, walnut in the headstock, rosewood truss rod cover plate & tailpiece. Adjustable/floating walnut bridge. Mini humbucker w/ volume & tone controls. Corona cigar box with hand painted top depicting a Scottish Thistle...banner reads "Nemo me impune lacessit"...roughly translates to "No one may harm me without penalty".
Hi Mal,
I hope you are well :0)
This one is a 13" box and a 7" cone.
The strat neck has a predetermined scale and the cone centre needs to be 4.5" from the tail. This means your neck will have very little overhang with the box so you will be needing a through box support to screw the neck to. Regarding bracing for mine I opted for a 2 layer body (as I haven't access to a router with 2 layers I can make a neck pocket with my scroll saw)
I also use hinges x2 at the top and hinges x2 plus tailpiece at the bottom to help brace the top/bottom sides of the box.
Good luck with the build - the Lowe cones are brilliant to work with.
Regards,
David
