This is the second CBG I've built.  Used red oak from a big box store for the neck. (It's what I can find and afford).  Wired in a humbucker and a parallel wired pair of piezo disks to aftermarket…Continue

Built my flame guitar at Specmen guitar school with stainless square tubing in neck. The neck has not moved at all.

I build 6 string cbg. I place square metal tubing in middle of the neck before fingerboarding this is how it was done in the old days before truss rods

Measure up some existing six-string necks. (dimensions are easily available on the web).
Most steel-strings have a neck width at the nut of 1 5/8" to 1 3/4". Classic (nylon-string guitars) have a bit wider; out to 2" or a little more.
My steel-string is 2 1/8" at the 12th fret.

Most of the six-string builds you see use an existing neck of some sort; stolen from a bolt-on electric or something.
Main reason for that is the truss rod. A six string should really have a truss rod, and building-installing one needs somewhat advanced wood-working skills.
Easier to use an existing neck.
Of course, if you build a lap-steel like Bluesdog's...You can make the neck as stout as you like.

This is my 6 stringer lapsteel, allthough i hardley ever play it anymore. It never gave the sound i wanted acouticly so it never realy got finished, it had some mistakes i had to learn the hard way so i never botherd to finish it. Its now serving as a dustcollector in my shed/workshop, couldnt bare to throw it away. It's still a good reference point for what not to do and what i do like for my next cbg-lapsteel.

I'm wanting to build one; I've got a cheap "Squier" strat I picked up and took apart. Having trouble finding a big-enough box. I figure to accomodate the Strat scale length, I need a box that's from 12-14 inches long.
Not having any luck... Odd since when I WASN'T looking for bigger boxes, I easily found a large Carta Blanca and a Cohiba box....
Still looking.
