I have a request for a six string. I've only built 3-strings so far. What size of wood do i need to get for the neck. I figure the old 1x2 of poplar won't be wide enuff. Any kind of help on this or any other problems that I might encounter on a six string would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks All,
-B

You cut a groove with a router down the middle of the surface that will have the fretboard in to tale the truss rod.
Take a look at Juju's photos as he has shown on there, more or less, exactly what you need to do.
If you need any more advice just give me a shout or leave a comment for Juju as he is very helpful and won't bite.

Hey thanks man. How do I put a "stress Rod" on to the neck?
I used a 4 by 4 maple at 34 inches long to start, i bought a blank fretbord....I dont think popular wont work no matter what size, i think it wont be strong enough...I would stick with maple , mohagany or something real strong....hey I said stick...get it..cbgs and stick!!!
Ok I will leave now.......
You will have to take into consideration several things with your 6 string neck.
Will it be 6 machines/tuners on one side or 3 a side?
Will you have a headstock angle or go for the fender style headstock which is just cut back like most of the 3/4 string CBG's.
If you want to do the job properly you will need a truss rod in the neck to take the tension of 6 strings and then you will need a fretboard on top of it all.
There are several builds of 6 string necks, with all the photos on the site to give you ideas.
Look up Juju aka soundssogood as he has build pictures of the necks being made and also Josh Gayou Smokehouse guitars because he also posts progress photos along with his builds.
I have only mentioned two but there are lots of other builders on the site who have built 6 stringers.
I have a neck in progress, when I have set up my router table to cut the truss rod groove, and I am using a piece of Maple for the neck which is about 30" x 4" x 1" thick for the neck. I also have a truss rod ready that I bought but in future I will make my own truss rods. I also have a fret board of rosewood to cap it all off.
The necks are usually tapered from about 1 5/8" at the nut to about 2 1/4" at the body joint.
Hope all this helps and if I have left anything off you need to know about then give me a holler!
