Do you like the round feel on the neck ?or the squair feel?
The most common you see passing by on the nation is 2x4 !
Neck shaping do we do it ? or do we leave it?

I do Clunky C. I’m basically sticking with the original shape of the neck, except I take just enough off the corners so that they don’t hurt my fretting hand.
In fact, maybe mine are more like fat baseball bat.

Interesting shapes.  I don't seem to be really particular about this, or really notice the neck when I play unless I get splinters or notice things being rough.  I do note that my arthritic left thumb gets irritated by playing my six in standard tuning.

Thanks for the Feed back Bryan ! thats what i did at first aswell but after a fjew jou get other ideers when i did my first oakwood Neck whit heel and bended headstock in one piece ,you get in to it more believe its due to the fact that because you got more work in to it you try to get closer to the real thing, i think my verry first one was a v shape but that was by ignorence on the matter ,but still it turned out playeble !

Hello UJ ! thanks for your feedback ! do you play more 3-4 string necks? cose when you have the six (who tends to bee wider ) somehow you grip on to the neck in a differend way ,me i dont tend to grip them at all specialy whit slide,(the 3- 4 that is ) and whit the sixer's i have on the slide on the pinky ,use the tumb for the low E and in chord play do grip the neck ( bar chords), can this be a reason?

I def have to round the corners on the bottom .... not quite C-shaped but the hard edge feels odd in my hand.

I use spokeshaves and rasps...ala Chickenbone John.

I do agree there Craig ,somehow the hand needs to feel something round and smooth, the playing tend to go better aswell !

Thanks Mark for that video link thats the way to do it ! the vice is one of my main tools in shaving a neck aswell Thanks for the comments ! Appriciated !

For 6 string guitars I've always liked the C shape. My BO Diddly build that I recently built I made a Soft V shaped neck. It's really comfortable and was a option on a lot of old Fender guitars.

For my CBG style guitars(mostly 4 string) I've used a D shape or Soft V shape. I've also tried to take more material off the neck on the finger side, so it's a bit odd shaped but works well.

Thanks Paul for your Feedback ! it good to hear that people exspiriment whit necks & Shapes, that how inovations come about ,otherwise whe whoed still be stuck whit those two by four sanded downs!

True that.
