Got stuff done, but not as much as I wanted, had some damage control to think through...

Right starting out I saw, tried to fix, and promptly screwed up, a problem with my headstock. Way too banana-shaped, and 'fixing' it only made it worse. The angles were not equal side to side. Since starting from scratch was not an attractive option, staring mode commenced and several ideas were thought through. The first, but way too much work was to cut it off and dowel/glue a new piece of wood and reshape. Scary. Next.....

Hmmmm....dowels, and a memory from jr. high wood shop. Pull the tuners, dowel the holes, sand/mill smooth, and re-layout the headstock. MUCH better, it's goiing to be painted anyway.

So that fix took some time, but I also got some fitment done. Also did some routing. This is the first time I've ever used a router. Have done the p/u cavity, the edges, and pulled off a rabbit cut to fit a recessed lid. Decided the nut is aluminum angle.

It's not completely fitted yet so the bridge and nut aren't mounted and the tone pot still needs a hole to crawl into.

I think the paint is going to be Colonial Red, with the wings gloss black lacquer.

love the electric conduit :-)

Wow. It looks really good James. Top notch build. It appears the nut may be a tiny bit higher than the bridge (that could just be pic angle though). If it is higher, I'd probably glue a small 1/8" (or whatever works) wooden shim under the bridge to raise it up just a tad. Other than that, it looks like you've got a really nice build coming along here.

Sweet looking so far. How are you going to finish the wood?

The body will be Rustolium Colonial Red, and the 'wings' will be gloss black

Can't wait to hear it.......

Like we use to say in construction, "looks good from my house!"  Seriously though, nice job. Just make sure you post a video can't wait to hear what it sounds like.

Sure will, but this project is far from being on a Shane Spiel 1-hour fast track...

Even Shane started out with less than perfect builds. All you can do is learn from others.
