Hi all,

I thought I'd post a few pics of my banjo uke that I built last year, using a cheap (£12) tambourine from Amazon, an idigbo neck, and hardware from Ebay.

'Loud' is the best word to describe it.  I'm in a couple of local uke groups, and this instrument has the dubious honour of being the loudest banjolele in the area!

Most of the component parts

Rough carving the neck.

The head gets its ears!

The neck goes all the way through the drum to take the compression loads.

Tail end and wooden bridge.

Head stock and nut

  • Beautiful job.  I have a couple tambourines Ihave been meaning to adapt for quite some time now.  One of them is a 6”.  I will probably try leaving the jangles on one of them just to see if it might add to the sound in a good way.  Thanks for sharing your work, it gives me incentive to get to working on mine.
