soundhole covers?

Hey, kinda new member here. wondering if anyone has any good ideas for soundhole covers, or something to dress em' up. I have a couple lathes and was considering turning my own, so I can turn several different diameters. I've used stewie mac screens, but I like funky off beat stuff like washing machine drain covers from the local hardware store.

Thought the brass drain covers would be to much, amd take away from this simple yet elegant looking box. so I did end up turning a set of four, then dyed them a deep red to match box and the red tones of the neck. I'm going to throw a coat of clear over them but here's how they came out.

  • Try chromed plastic or metal grommets / hole covers from the office supply store for passing wires thru desks. Drill a few holes in 'em and they work nice. I've used quite a few things from the hardware isle at the hardware store, the misc. parts bins at Ace and Do It Best hardware stores are great.
Also thrift stores and resale shops have lots of aluminum bowls and kitchen implements that can work well, or can be drilled etc. to work
  • I ask this same question yesterday and Jay sent a picture of some soundhole covers he use's If you go to the low budget land group you'll find those there. I'm new too. Still getting the hang of the site. I bet if you turn some down on that lathe they would be sweet. lenny
