Thanks to all who responded to my question. My problem is with the feathered edge on the back of the neck. I ended up taking a small file and working it until it looked better. Not perfect but I’ve decided it’s just a character addition and likely no one will notice except me. Still working on getting over my “perfectionist “ problem when building. This is my sixth build and not one has been perfect and not one person has commented on it!

One trick to sanding a a scarf joint is to use a sanding block, instead of sanding back and forth you sand in a circle. Back and forth you have double pressure in the ends and there is always a gap. In a circle it remains flat. Can't wait to see your #1!

Sand it smooth and move on. As long as you have a good glue joint it's only aesthetic. You can always paint the headstock a solid color to mask the misalignment of the woodgrain if that's the main concern. They're never perfect.

I would sand the rough parts flat until they match up? Are they glued together already? Pics? A good clamping, sharp blade & practice will help in long run? Don’t worry, it’s your 1st, next one’s gonna be better? BTW, I practiced on scrap before I actually did one for keeps? good luck :) …
