Hi all!
I'm curious how many Aussie cigar box guitars builders we have here? I'm struggling to find parts and accessories for my builds! I've done the build with anything I can find and though this is awesome... I would like to start some more advanced stuff. So! What web sites do you use? Where do you get your supplies from!
You need to be a member of Cigar Box Nation to add comments!
i've only got a few boxes i pulled out of a skip, otherwise i source random wooden boxes from op shops and will probably build a few. shipping from the uk is probably cheaper than US sites for parts.
Thanks Lads! There is heaps of music shops but nothing parts wise in specifics for CBG's. Whats the china sites you guys are using?
Yeah im making a bit of both, my own boxes and cigar boxes! I kinda like building my own boxes to be honest, but then you kinda want a more trashy traditional look!
They looking great Mate I’ll go through my history on eBay and shoot you a few links of where I’ve shopped . Thanks for excepting my friend request. I tend to stay away from trad center line builds I prefer off set necks have a bow peep at my pics if you got time .
Gday Cobba I’m in Hobart welcome to the Nation . If your lucky you can still get old cigar boxes on eBay but it’s slim pickings I use some of the same sites you have and also China , like Taffy said from Gitty Supply’s when the buck is in our favour , I also dumpster dive to fine the odd piece of lumber tossed out making your own boxes is the best way to go I think you have better control on quality as said before , enjoy which ever way you go and remember there’s no rules in CBG building .

Cheers Bro! I do love a dumpster dive! got a couple of old smoke alarms for piezos!
Hi and welcome, I'm in North Queensland so I buy from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and from USA when the dollar is good. I also have accounts with some importers in Australia. I build my own box's so as to ensure a consistent quality. My wife bought me a stack of proper cigar box's one time, but most were unsuitable for my use.
I Googled music shops in Melbourne and the choice was overwhelming, to me. My nearest music shop is a 270klm round trip.
However for much of my CBG parts I buy from China.
Cheers Taff

Hey Taff! wow that's an epic drive to grab some strings!
And I ordered some cigar boxes from these guys! Really good people at cigar hut! The guy there posted them out to me as well! Decent boxes not crappy ones!
use mostly recoverd stuff from broken guitars or ebay. unfortunately the shipping from CBGitty to Australia is too prohibitive for small orders.
I find it almost impossible to get actual Cigar boxes here in brisbane. the last couple i bought from a bloke here in brisbane who had bought and paid for freight on a lot of boxes from overseas. i think from now on i ma going to make my own boxes for the bodies ( after i reclaim my work shed)
