Hey Bryon, if you're just going to have it sit on top like that, I vote for drilling out some holes under it so it can resonate throughout the box. Also, to get some good action, make sure the fingerboard is a bit above the top of the box.

I was going to resess the tin so that about a quarter inch shows the rest will be inside.Thanks for the help

Ah, I see now. I was thinking you just had the lid resting on the top of the box. You may want to try that out. If you don't like it, then you can always cut the top to sit the whole thing down in there. I was thinking that if you set the lid on top of the box, and just held it in place with string tension, then you may get a little bit more volume because the tin would resonate as well as some vibration transfered to the box top. Maybe you'll get a different sound out of it.
